I am employed as a full time Principal Statistician here at UCR, and stationed at the USDA-ARS Salinity Laboratory (up the hill behind the Statistics Department). I spend about 60% of my time at work consulting with different Laboratory research scientists, typically on the design of (and/or analysis of data acquired from) soil and crop experiments, remote sensing surveys, and environmental studies. The rest of my time at work is spent developing scientific software programs (usually in VB) for USDA and/or third party end-users.
My wife and I have two small boys, and live here in Riverside. Jacqueline (my wife) has a MLIS degree, and works as a Librarian for the Redlands Institute (University of Redlands). connor (3 years old) and Grant (4 months old) don't have jobs yet, but they are both especially good at keeping me up half the night (so that I have more time to study!)...

"I was born and raised in Columbus OH; however I lived in Chicago IL for
several years.
My undergraduate degree is in Industrial Engineering from Ohio State University
and my graduate degree is in Applied Statistics from DePaul University.
I had an 8-year career in the corporate environment, which focused in
statistical analysis of operational data. In addition, I have 4-years of
experience in academia lecturing quantitative courses such as mathematics and
statistics.
Reading, and taking nature walks are two of my favorite hobbies. However, my
favorite hobby is traveling. I've been to about 15 different countries thus
far and there are about 85 others that I am hoping to visit in my lifetime.
During 2004 and 2005, I lived and worked abroad in Africa (Malawi and South
Africa). After completing my PhD, I hope to work abroad again."
